Luis Suarez made Barcelona regret that they ever sold him on Saturday night.The Camp Nou faithful were gutted to see one of their greatest ever players leave in the summer of 2020 and the decision has been made to look all the more ridiculous in the 12 months since.Not only was Suarez inexplicably allowed to sign for one of Barca's biggest La Liga rivals in Atletico Madrid, but the bizarre deal only saw the Catalans pocket a pitiful €6 million in return.

Since then, Suarez has rattled home an impressive 25 goals across just 47 games in the Spanish capital and even beat Barcelona to the La Liga crown during his debut season.
And what makes the situation all the more painful for Barcelona fans is the circumstances under which Suarez was shown the door, particularly if you believe the account of the player himself.
According to the Mirror, Suarez told Cope earlier in the year: "Koeman's words were: 'They [the directors] told me to tell you.

"I was made to train separately [from the first team] and left out of the squad for the three friendlies.
"Then, Koeman said that if my future was not resolved, he was counting on me for the first game of the season against Villarreal.
“That is when you see that he didn't have the character to tell me that he didn't want me himself."

So, just imagine how Koeman must have felt when Suarez came back to haunt him all these months later by scoring a classy goal that placed Atletico Madrid 2-0 up at half-time against the Blaugrana.
With Thomas Lemar having already fired Atletico in the lead, Suarez compiled his former team's misery with a composed finish at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to leave Koeman heartbroken.
In fact, television cameras even captured Koeman's reaction in the stands with the ex-Southampton, Everton and Netherlands manager looking as though he wished he had never sold Suarez.

And there's potentially reason to believe that Suarez aimed a dig at Koeman with his celebration because images have emerged of the Uruguayan striker making a telephone gesture afterwards.
It's impossible to say for certain that Suarez was referring to the phone call with which Koeman so infamously brought his Barca career to an end - but it's hard to believe that it's a coincidence.
Don't worry, Ronald, at least you have Martin Braithwaite and Luuk de Jong instead.
What could have been...
Now, it must be said that the comments surrounding Suarez's exit seem to suggest that a lot of the culpability lies at the feet of Josep Maria Bartomeu's feet, but Koeman has still come under fire.
Besides, it's not a massive leap in logic to suggest that if Koeman had wanted Suarez to continue leading Barca's line in a time when Lionel Messi was still around that he would have done.

But as inexplicable as it might seem despite transpiring so long ago, Suarez is instead playing for one of Barca's biggest rivals and making sure the club never forgets that they allowed it to happen.
