Arsenal defender Gabriel endured an anxious period after the Gunners' 2-0 victory over Brighton at the end of the last season.

Mikel's Arteta's squad gathered following the full-time whistle at the Emirates on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign to bid farewell to the departing David Luiz.

In the act of huddling around Luiz, though, Gabriel somehow managed to lose a tooth, sparking a search to locate it that saw the Brazilian rope in several members of the Arsenal support team.

Happily, the tooth was recovered shortly afterwards - and soon returned to its rightful home by the player's dentist.

Arsenal met Brighton for the first time this season at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening. Incredibly, Gabriel managed to lose a tooth during the game - marking the second straight matchday against the Seagulls that he has done so.

Per Football London journalist Kaya Kaynak, the damage was done when the 23-year-old collided with Brighton pair Lewis Dunk and Robert Sanchez in the second half.

The Arsenal man was able to recover a portion of his tooth at the time, passing it to coach Shad Forsythe on the visitors' bench.

However, he was clearly still missing the remainder as he was captured searching the turf for it well after the conclusion of the game.

The dismal weather on the south coast apparently meant that none of his colleagues fancied helping him to retrieve the lost fragment of the tooth, either.

Arsenal quiz: Can you name the club's most expensive signings in each of the last 10 years?

While plenty of assistance was offered on the sunny day at the Emirates when Gabriel first lost a tooth, the centre-back cut a lone figure as he trudged through the driving rain at the Amex in the hope of stumbling across what he was looking for. You can check out the footage for yourself below.

It's unclear whether Gabriel was successful in his search, but he did at least make the journey back to north London with a clean sheet to his credit as the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Happily, the defender has since confirmed on Instagram that he underwent a procedure to fix the issue in the early hours of Sunday morning. We're guessing his dentist was more than willing to accommodate an emergency appointment for such a regular client!
