James Rodriguez's Everton exit for Al Rayyan "reflects really badly" on the Merseyside club, according to journalist Paul Brown.
How did James' move come about?
James left Everton after securing a move to Qatari side Al Rayyan for an undisclosed fee last month.
His switch came after Rafa Benitez, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the Everton hotseat in June, told the Colombia international that he did not feature in the Spaniard's plans.
The Toffees were keen to get James off the books as his £90,000-per-week contract meant he was among the club's top earners and yet he had failed to make an appearance since May.
James did not even secure a place in a matchday squad since the Merseyside club got their season underway.
The 30-year-old winger has headed to Qatar after snubbing a move to Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir.
What has Paul Brown said about James' departure?
James' spell at Goodison Park only lasted 12 months, following his arrival from Spanish giants Real Madrid, and Brown believes he turned out to be a poor acquisition for financial reasons.
He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think the whole James saga reflects really badly on the club because he is a great player but they took a risk knowing, when they signed him, that his body probably wasn't up to a full 38 game Premier League season.
"They ended up paying massive wages to someone who hasn't been able to contribute as much as he would have liked and basically couldn't afford to keep him because their struggles with Financial Fair Play are well documented.

"It's not really the European Financial Fair Play rules, it's the Premier League's cost control part of it that is the issue here. They added too much to the wage bill and can't add anymore without taking some away.
"But I think the whole thing reflects quite badly on Everton because he is ultimately a massive star with a huge talent and they haven't handled this situation very well. We could have seen this coming really."

Toffees supporters were originally overjoyed when James' arrival was confirmed last year, but his relationship with the fanbase soured significantly towards the end of his time at Goodison Park.
The 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner infuriated Everton fans just a matter of weeks into the new season.
