West Ham United transfer target Mohamed Bayo has similar attributes to former England goalscoring great Gary Lineker, according to Get French Football News journalist Adam White.

What's the latest news involving Bayo?

Despite the transfer window closing at the end of August, West Ham are pursuing Clermont striker Bayo.

The 23-year-old grabbed an impressive 22 goals and registered a further seven assists in 38 Ligue Two appearances last season.

Bayo's firepower played a key role in Clermont winning promotion to France's top tier and his fine form has continued, with him scoring four goals and adding another two assists in his first seven outings of the new campaign.

But West Ham are not the only club tracking Bayo as, according to French media outlet L’Equipe via Get French Football News, Bordeaux lodged a summer bid for the frontman.

Bayo is also starting to make his mark at international level having collected his first two Guinea caps earlier this year.

What has Adam White said about Bayo?

White has compared Bayo to Lineker, who scored close to 50 goals for England.

Lineker also found the back of the net 136 times at club level as he featured for the likes of Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Spanish giants Barcelona during his playing days.

White believes Bayo, like Lineker, is deadly when the ball is in and around the goal.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "Bayo is a lone central striker and is much more of a six-yard box striker.

"Two or three of his goals are coming almost on the goal line, so he is a proper poacher.

"If you want to draw a comparison with someone, maybe it would be Gary Lineker."

Why are West Ham targeting Bayo?

The Hammers have just one senior striker, in the form of Michail Antonio, on their books.

Although Antonio has been in sensational form for West Ham, scoring five goals in as many Premier League appearances so far this season, his dismissal against Southampton showed West Ham need another striking option.

Hammers boss David Moyes was forced to play with a false nine during the narrow defeat to Manchester United at London Stadium as Antonio served a one-match suspension.

Despite failing to bring in another striker to provide competition for Antonio during the summer, the east Londoners spent £63.3million during the recently-closed transfer window.

Moyes splashed the majority of that cash on attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic and central defender Kurt Zouma.
