Michael Bridge has revealed that Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze was in the discussion to be named in Gareth Southgate's standby list for the European Championships this summer.

Why was Eze in the conversation?

After catching the eye of several Premier League clubs on his way to scoring 14 goals and assisting eight more for Queens Park Rangers in the 2019-2020 Championship season, the 23-year-old was snapped up by Palace for £19.5m last summer.

Despite no top-flight experience, Eze soon looked at home in the Premier League and after finding his feet following a testing start, ended up directly contributing to 10 goals in 34 appearances to help Palace fight off relegation under Roy Hodgson.

Eze's most memorable moment was a fine solo effort against Sheffield United. However, his season soon turned sour with just two games remaining when he suffered a freak training ground injury which resulted in Eze injuring his Achilles whilst turning.

The extent of the injury means the ex-Rangers attacking midfielder is still waiting to make his first appearance under Patrick Vieira and hasn't played competitively since a victory over Aston Villa on 16 May.

Bridge revealed that prior to his injury, Eze was on his way to being named in Southgate's standby list for the Euro's, although that setback soon ended his chances.

What did Bridge say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Eze, I was told was potentially going to be on the England standby list for the Euro's, the way he was playing."

Will Eze get another chance?

Most definitely. If Eze can get back fit and start showing the form that earned him a move to the Premier League and then caught Southgate's eye, then another opportunity should come his way.

What shirt number does Christian Benteke wear for Crystal Palace?

Whilst he hasn't yet been capped for the England senior side, the 2022 World Cup is still more than 12 months away, and although the attacking midfield and wide areas are the most competitive in the Three Lions squad, a strong season with Palace could certainly throw his name into the ring for Qatar.
