Tottenham news: Spurs could have their own Jude Bellingham after £15.6m transfer decision

Teenage sensation Jude Bellingham in action for Borussia Dortmund

French football expert Adam White believes that new Tottenham signing Pape Matar Sarr has a similar skillset to England wonderkid Jude Bellingham.

Who is Pape Matar Sarr?

Sarr burst onto the scene with Ligue 1 outfit Metz last term, making 22 top-flight appearances as an 18-year-old. Playing at the heart of the side’s midfield, he scored three goals, which included finding the net in away wins over Stade Brest and Dijon.

His performances caught the eye of Spurs, who made their move for him late on in the recent transfer window, signing the youngster for €18m (£15.6m).

He was immediately loaned back to Metz for the season, meaning that he is due to officially meet up with his new Tottenham teammates next summer.

What did White say about Sarr?

Sarr already has two caps for Senegal, suggesting that he is developing at a rapid pace, much like Borussia Dortmund’s Bellingham. There is less than a year separating the two teenagers in terms of age, and both are making positive strides as central midfielders in two of Europe’s most high-profile leagues.

When asked if there are similarities between the pair, White told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s a really good comparison actually. There’s a lot of parallels between them in terms of their ability and the positions they take up. And their skillset, and the job you would ask them to do in midfield as well.”

Could Tottenham have their own Jude Bellingham?

It’s important not to get too carried away as Bellingham certainly seems to be clearly ahead of Sarr with regards to his development. He has been a phenomenon since joining Dortmund last summer, and has already made 12 Champions League appearances, plus featured at the European Championships earlier this year, with England going on to make the final.

Bellingham is arguably the finest footballer in the world for his age, and is already well on his way to becoming the complete modern-day midfielder.

Did Tottenham Hotspur sign Moussa Sissoko on transfer deadline day in 2016?

However, it is very exciting news for Tottenham fans to hear that Sarr could potentially follow in Bellingham’s footsteps. The 6 foot 1 talent has progressed nicely in his first 12 months at Metz, and if he can continue to perform well he could be ready to make a major impact at Spurs next year.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have struggled badly in midfield so far this season, as they have been unable to find the right balance between attack and defence, with the team lacking creativity, while also leaving holding midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg exposed at times.

Sarr appears to have a well-rounded game, and could be a huge asset for the side when he arrives in north London in 2022.
