This feels like a make-or-break season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

We're fast approaching three years of the Norwegian in charge at Old Trafford and, while there have been plenty of highs, his future could very well depend on whether he can bring any silverware to the club this year.

A trophy has so far eluded Solskjaer but, after finishing second in the Premier League table and reaching the Europa League final last season, it couldn't be any clearer what the 48-year-old must do in his second full season in charge.

United appear to be once again competitive, currently occupying fourth place in the Premier League table with two fewer points than Chelsea, but some of their fans have already given up hope that Solskjaer is the one to return them to the top.

That includes Twitter user @htomanutd, who has penned an in-depth thread that attempts to prove "why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t good enough for Manchester United."

'Why Solskjaer isn't good enough'

The thread - there are 21 tweets in total - analyses United's tactics from their defensive structure to their patterns of play.

"This thread isn’t one-sided, I personally feel Ole Gunnar Solskjær has done a great job steadying the ship however he has taken us as far as HE can and I think his time as Manchester United manager is over," it states.

You can read the thread in full by clicking here, but we'll include some of the best parts below.

On United's defensive structure/transition

"Our shape is nowhere near good enough, the team isn’t encouraged to press passing lanes and angles, the shape isn't good enough without the ball and we don’t use our wide players defensively well enough Perfect example, West Ham (A)."

On United's build-up

"We move the ball too slow with zero intent or purpose. From the 'k

eeper to the midfield there’s no real pattern of how to progress the ball through the 3 phases. However, Varane has helped this a lot recently. But it's still not good enough."

On using two defensive midfielders

"Ole plays 2 DMs to ‘protect the defence’ when we have two quality centre halves in Varane and Maguire.

"No other big 6 team uses two out an out defensive midfielders, and we have probably the 3rd best defensive partnership in the league, so why do we need to protect them?"

On patterns of play

"There are no patterns in ANY of the phases of our build-up, it’s all off the cuff and individually brilliant. Which at this ELITE level, is nowhere near good enough. We don't create the same chance twice."

On lack of width/inability to break low blocks

"This is down to team selection, playing Paul off the left to come inside, with Mason off the right to come inside and Bruno and Ronaldo down the middle and no real overlaps from the FBs is a recipe for disaster against low blocks.

"You have to create chances through wing play and wide overloads against low blocks, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, and even Arsenal all do this which is why lesser teams crumble so easily against City/Liverpool/Chelsea."

On Man United's coaches

"Ole is a good man-manager but refuses to employ good enough coaches and doesn’t have a good enough idea or style of how to play. It’s a mates mate club, Carrick, McKenna, Phelan.

"Sir Alex Ferguson was an ELITE manager but he employed ELITE level coaches when he was at Man United."

On who should replace Solskjaer

"The United board need to be very careful with their next appointment - they need to decide if they want a younger/brighter approach (Ten Haag) or if they want to take advantage of their current squad quality and bring in a Zidane/Conte to theoretically try and ensure a trophy."
