Journalist Luke Hatfield believes that Reading midfielder John Swift would be a fine addition to Wolves' squad if he moves to Molineux in January.

What's the latest news involving Swift?

Swift has started the season in sensational form, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 11 Championship appearances. His standout performance came last month at home to QPR, when he netted a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw, on his way to a WhoScored match rating of 9.13.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, and it was reported last week that a host of Premier League clubs, including Wolves, are tracking Swift's progress ahead of potentially making a move for him in the next transfer window.

What does Hatfield make of Swift being linked with Wolves?

Hatfield is aware that Swift would have to prove himself at Premier League level, having spent most of his career in the second tier. However, he feels that the 26-year-old would fit in well at Wolves if he can replicate his recent displays at the highest level.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Swift potentially joining Wolves, Hatfield said: “Obviously it’s a step down from the Premier League, but if he can carry that on in the top-flight, then he’d be a really good signing for Wolves or for anyone. So yeah, it’s an interesting link. We’ll have to wait until January to see what happens with Wolves and whether Swift is on their list.”

Could Swift be the missing piece of the puzzle at Wolves?

Wolves have put in a number of positive performances this season, and could arguably have far more than nine points to their name after seven league matches. The main reason they haven't reached double digits yet is because of their finishing.

Bruno Lage's men have scored just five top-flight goals to date, with four of those coming from their strike duo of Hwang Hee-chan and Raul Jimenez, plus an own goal. They need more goals from midfield, and this is where Swift could come into play.

The attacking midfielder has been directly involved in 60 goals in 175 appearances for Reading, showing that he can have a major impact on games in the final third of the pitch.

Of course, there may be a slight concern that he has only played one minute of Premier League football before, so he still needs to prove himself when playing against the best teams in the country.

Still, his form in recent years suggests that he deserves the opportunity to test himself against the cream of the crop, and he could get the chance to do that at Wolves if they step up their interest in him in January.
