Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge feels that Tottenham have a "bang average" midfield at the moment.
The club's new managing director Fabio Paratici brought in a number of new players in the recent transfer window, but was unable to significantly strengthen the team in the middle of the park, and it has shown in the opening weeks of the season.
What's happening with Tottenham's midfield?
Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo has tinkered with his central midfield on several occasions already this term as he tries to figure out his favoured combination.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been on the one constant in this area of the pitch, while the likes of Dele Alli, Oliver Skipp, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks have all been given opportunities to impress.
However, none of them have grasped their chance with both hands, leaving Nuno still unsure as to how to set up his side in midfield.
What does Bridge make of Spurs' midfield?
Bridge has bluntly stated that he does not rate Tottenham's midfield particularly highly. He went on to add that it is worrying how much they have weakened in this area since they were at their best under Mauricio Pochettino a few years ago.
Talking to GIVEMESPORT, Bridge said: “I just think Tottenham’s midfield is bang average now. I really do, that’s the sad thing. I saw Victor Wanyama retired from international football – it reminded me of what bricks we had in midfield, Wanyama and Dembele. These are two lads who you don’t want to go up against in midfield.”

What can Tottenham do to address this issue?
In the next couple of transfer windows, Paratici must do all he can to help Nuno fix this problem by bringing in midfielders of comparable quality to Wanyama and Mousa Dembele at their peak. It has been reported that this is already high on the Italian's list of priorities, which will be music to the ears of Tottenham's fans.
With regards to the immediate future, Nuno needs to try to settle on a consistent trio of midfielders and give them a run in the team rather than chopping and changing so regularly.
There were positive signs in Sunday's win over Aston Villa, as Hojbjerg and Skipp mopped up in front of the back four confidently, and they ought to be the two holding midfielders moving forwards.
Doubts remain about the No. 10 position as Ndombele looked off the pace, but if Nuno can help one of his attacking midfielders find some form he could have a reasonable midfield three to call upon after the international break.
