Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield has doubts over whether Wolves would be getting good value for money by handing Adama Traore a £100k per-week contract.

What's the latest news involving Adama Traore?

It was recently reported by The Daily Mail that Wolves are close to agreeing a new contract with the Spain international, whose current terms are due to expire at the end of next season.

The Molineux outfit resisted attempts from Tottenham to lure Traore to north London during the summer, but now need to wrap up his future quickly before they come under significant pressure to sell.

It seems an agreement could be around the corner, however, with Traore said to be 'on the verge' of penning fresh terms that would see him earn close to £100k per-week in the Midlands.

That is despite Traore recently losing his place in Bruno Lage's starting XI. He was surprising benched for the win over Southampton and was a last-minute substitute on Saturday versus Newcastle.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Traore's contract?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Hatfield expressed concerns over news that Wolves could end up paying Traore close to £100k per-week despite his questionable output.

While the former Middlesbrough man's direct dribbling style often causes problems for opposition defenders, he's only ever managed seven goals and 16 assists in 147 Premier League appearances.

Hatfield told GMS in regards to The Daily Mail's report on Traore: "It's a lot of money to give a player whose end product hasn't quite hit the mark recently."

What is Adama Traore's value?

Transfermarkt value Adama Traore at £27m, although it was claimed by David Ornstein during the summer that Wolves wanted almost double that - £50m - to allow him to leave for Tottenham on Deadline day.

Traore's future value will be largely dictated by whether or not he signs a new contract at Molineux. If he puts pen to paper, Wolves will have secured the former Barcelona prodigy's market worth for the next few years.

But the longer Traore goes without signing a new deal, the more his value will start to depreciate.

Once players have reached the final year of their contracts, it's common for clubs to sell them at comparatively modest fees as the prospect of losing a player on a free transfer becomes a distinct possibility.

Wolves have probably missed the boat in getting a top-end fee for Traore within the time frame of his current contract, especially now he's out of the starting XI, so they'll likely be eager for him to sign a new deal.
