Macclesfield Town defender Elliott Hewitt is subject to interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea, according to The Daily Mail.

The 17-year-old has already represented Wales at Under-21 level and has also been attracting interest from Everton and Chelsea.

But now Arsenal are the newest club to join the race for the starlet, who made his debut for the Silkman against Hereford United last season.

"If there is a better right-back in the bottom two divisions as we speak I haven't seen one," manager Gary Simpson.

"He's absolutely unbelievable to say he's only just 17. Whether we can hang onto him I very much doubt. All the big boys are hovering."

Arsenal's injury crisis at full-back, with Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna both out injury, could give Arsene Wenger reason to invest in some cover in the position.

Furthermore, Arsenal's insistence on signing the country's brightest young talents makes them a leading contender to snap up the youngster.
