The UEFA Nations League returned this week with a titanic clash between Italy and Spain. The iconic footballing citadel that is the San Siro played host to the clash between two of Europe's powerhouse with the Spanish out for revenge. The pair last faced each other in the semi-finals of Euro 2020 when it was Italy who would triumph via a penalty shootout - we all know what happened next. However, it was all Spain this time around as Luis Enrique's side looked the better team in the opening exchanges. They snatched the lead after a picture perfect cross from Pablo Oyarzabal put it on a plate for Ferran Torres to guide home.Things would then get much worse for the European champions when captain Leonardo Bonucci was handed his marching orders for second yellow card late in the first half.First viewing would suggest that it was an incredibly soft way to receive a second yellow, with the defensive stalwart leading with his elbow as he competed for an aerial ball.

Unsurprisingly, the decision to send the Italian skipper packing caused a lot of debate online, with fans bemoaning how soft a decision it was.

An eery silence descended on the San Siro as they watched Bonucci trudge from the pitch.

Spain would then go onto the rub salt into the gaping wound as they doubled their lead on the stroke of hal time as Torres once again applied the finishing touch.

At the time of writing, the scoreline remained 2-0.
