It may shock you to learn that only one English player was sent off while on international duty at the old Wembley Stadium.
That man was Manchester United legend Paul Scholes and his dismissal occurred in a Euro 2000 qualifier versus Sweden, which finished 0-0.
The midfielder was shown a second yellow card early in the latter half of the game for one of his infamous questionable tackles.
Scholes had picked up his first booking in the 27th-minute for yet another late challenge and it's fair to say that he shouldn't have even been on the field of play at that early point of the match.
That's because in the very first minute of proceedings in the English capital, the former United man was guilty of a hideous tackle on Sweden's Hakan Mild.
The ginger-haired maestro leapt into the air and connected with his opponent in brutal fashion, leaving Mild with a bloody leg.

Amazingly, the referee declared that Scholes' dangerous tackle was not even worthy of a booking.
Had VAR been in place back in 1999, the Englishman would have been on the receiving end of one of the quickest red cards in the history of international football.

It's virtually impossible not to wince at that footage.
Scholes excelled in so many areas of the game during his illustrious professional career for both club and country, but tackling was certainly not one of them.
He was often guilty of mistiming challenges and that unfortunate trademark saw him sent off in an FA Cup semi-final versus Manchester City in 2011 for a reckless tackle on Pablo Zabaleta.
As we previously mentioned, Scholes' red card in the Sweden game was the only one handed to an Englishman at the old Wembley, but two more players have joined the club since the newer version of the stadium opened.
Steven Gerrard was given his marching orders on England duty against Ukraine in 2012, while Harry Maguire was dismissed by the referee versus Denmark back in 2020.
