Liverpool.com journalist Emmet Gates believes that the club should pay Mohamed Salah what he wants in order to get the attacker to sign a new contract.
The 29-year-old is arguably in the form of his life having scored nine goals in all competitions already this season.
What is Salah's current contract situation?
Salah has been at Anfield for over four years now, but he has not signed a contract extension since 2018.
His current deal is set to run out in 2023, and the player is in discussions with the club about extending his stay on Merseyside.
However, he reportedly wants to be paid between £300,000 and £380,000 per week, which would make him the highest paid player in the team by some distance.
He did himself no harm in terms of negotiations this past weekend when he scored a sensational solo goal against Manchester City in the Premier League.
What has Gates said about Salah's contract?
Gates acknowledges that if Liverpool give in to Salah's demands, they will be breaking their wage structure. Still, he feels that the Egyptian winger is worth it.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the matter, Gates said: “In terms of Salah’s contract, you’d think after his performance against City, Liverpool will basically just give him a blank cheque and go: ‘put your figure there and we’ll pay it.’ At the given moment, he’s undoubtedly worth it. It just depends if FSG really want to upset their wage structure.
“But if there’s an understanding where we make an exception for Mo Salah and we give him what he wants. On current form, he’s undoubtedly worth every penny.”

Should FSG give Salah what he wants?
Liverpool only made one major signing this summer, bringing in Ibrahima Konate, which suggests that funds are tight at the club. This indicates that giving Salah a major pay rise would be a huge move by the owners, FSG.
It would also mean that he would be earning considerably more than other superstars in the squad such as Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Yet Salah is perhaps playing better than ever, and has an argument for being the best player in Europe right now. With this in mind, he deserves to be paid handsomely.
The ball appears to now be in FSG's court, but it seems that they really can't afford to let Salah go any time soon given the numbers he is producing at the moment, and this could lead to them offering him exactly the deal that he wants in the near future.
