In a post-pandemic world, handing a player approaching 30 a huge new contract does seem rather unwise.

In fact, it sounds absolutely crazy given the problems the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona have had in shifting players on huge wages of late.

Still, there are a few exceptions.

Indeed, Mo Salah's ridiculously consistent form since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017 shows no signs of slowing. Already a club legend, his start to this season - six goals in seven Premier League thus far - has been astonishing. Half a decade after joining the club, the 29-year-old could be on course for his best season yet.

So then, perhaps the idea of meeting his reported £300k-per-week demands isn't as crazy as it sounds.

While it would be hyperbolic to suggest Salah is in the same class as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, they have proven that careers on the top can span decades. Such is the advancement of sports science, the dreaded '30' milestone is no longer so scary.

Salah makes Liverpool better.

A relentless goalscoring machine, he's arguably the biggest difference-maker in the Premier League at the moment. Given the difference in resources between Liverpool, the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea, he's absolutely vital to any realistic hope the club currently have of winning major trophies.

That kind of quality was recently highlighted in a compilation made by Twitter user @CF_Comps.

Fresh from his wonder goal against Manchester City that set social media ablaze, the video shows the forward's goals against the Premier League's so-called 'Top Six'.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and City have all been ripped apart by Salah during his time at Anfield and the breakdown is as follows:

If any one player at Liverpool is worth that kind of money, it surely has to be Salah.
