Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has said he is eyeing a return to the podium this weekend at the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park.

Formula 1 heads back to Turkey for another year this weekend and if we get a race half as good as the one in 2020 we are in for a real treat - one that would fit in nicely with the rest of this famous season that we are having.

Indeed, unlike last year, the title definitely cannot be won in Turkey with Mercedes and Red Bull still locking horns and it is clear Perez is eyeing a strong points finish to help his team in their Constructors' championship battle.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's race, Perez said:

“I have a lot of confidence in this car and I think we’ve shown good speed lately.

“However, I am aware we have to put everything together to get the car in the right place on the grid and score a lot of points. We need those points to be at the top of the championship at the end of the season.

“We did a lot of work after Russia to analyse what went wrong and what went well and what we can do to improve.

“I also spent a bit more time on the sim for the race weekend in Turkey, so we did some pretty intensive homework for this weekend.

“I’m now looking forward to the last seven races and I’m sure our luck will turn around. We perform well on the track, but now we have to show that with our results on the Sunday. I want to be back on the podium this weekend.”

Certainly, it's a pretty bold set of comments from the Mexican but he went well here last year and will be looking to emulate that as he aims to return to the top three.

Red Bull have some ground to make to Mercedes, and a double podium finish this weekend would help them along in trying to do that.
