The much-maligned Saudi Arabian takeover of Newcastle United looks to have cleared its final hurdle with an announcement regarding its completion expected imminently.

The bid had initially looked dead in the water, with the Premier League refusing to sign off on the deal due to broadcasting dispute in the region.

However, with Saudi Arabia lifting the ban they had in place on beIN Sports, the oil-bricked road to financial supremacy has been cleared.

Backed by the bottomless pockets of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, better known as the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the takeover will see the new big dogs at St. James' Park easily become the richest owners in the league.

But just how much richer are they than the other owners? Well, let's have a look and see.

The richest owners in the Premier League

20. Brentford - Matthew Benham (£3 million)
19. Norwich - Delia Smith and Michael Wynn-Jones (£23m)
18. Burnley - Mike Garlick (£62m)
17. Watford – Gino Pozzo (£93m)
16. Leeds – Andrea Radrizzani (£344m)

15. Brighton – Tony Bloom (£765m)
14. West Ham – David Sullivan and David Gold (£1.62bn)
13. Everton – Farhad Moshiri (£1.9bn)
12. Liverpool – John Henry (£2.14bn)
11. Southampton – Gao Jisheng (£2.3bn)

10. Newcastle – Mike Ashley (£2.5bn)

At the time of writing, Mike Ashley remained at the helm of the Toon. However, he is not, and has not been a popular figure at all at the club and you can imagine that fans will be jumping for joy to see the back of him.

9. Leicester – Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha (£2.9bn)

The Srivaddhanaprabha family are possibly the most beloved owners in the Premier League.

They have a special relationship with the fans and players and have meticulously crafted Leicester into a genuine English powerhouse.

8. Crystal Palace – Joshua Harris (£3.36bn)

Joshua Harris is one of the lesser known 'owners' in the league.

This is probably down to the fact that he only owns 18% of the London club but, the fact that he is also the principle shareholder in NHL team New Jersey Devils and NBA team the Philadelphia 76ers sees his net worth eclipse more than half of the owners on this list.

7. Manchester United – The Glazers (£3.5bn)

p1fhd4ibub19qp1ud117ekddu1p2mf.jpg

A name that is not muttered fondly in Manchester United circles.

The distant American owners have come under heavy fire in recent months but it doesn't;t look like they have any plans to anywhere.

6. Tottenham – Joe Lewis (£3.6bn)

English National Investment Company, of which Lewis owns 70.6%, bought a controlling stake in Spurs from Lord Alan Sugar in 2001.

As the main investor at Tavistock Group, a fund which owns over 200 businesses, Lewis has been able to build up a pretty tidy net worth.

5. Wolves – Guo Guangchang (£4.5bn)

Guangchang completed his takeover of the midlands club in 2016 and has invested heavily in the team ever since.

However, it is his other ventures in mining, insurance, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, property, steel, retail and services that have made him one of the wealthiest men in the Premier League.

4. Aston Villa – Nassef Sawiris (£5.3bn)

Sawiris bought a 55% controlling stake at Villa in 2018 from former owner, Tony Xia.

As a member of one of Egypt's richest families, Sawiris has enjoyed business success with numerous construction, engineering and building companies.

3. Arsenal – Stan Kroenke (£6.35bn)

Kroenke's presence in the top three is probably the hardest to swallow of the lot.

The American tycoon's apparent lack of interest in the club and its general welfare is even harder to accept when you understand just how wealthy the man actually is.

You can hardly blame Arsenal fans for harbouring mountains of angst towards their owner.

2. Chelsea – Roman Abramovich (£9.6bn)

The man who started it all.

The Russian oil baron was the first mega-money billionaire to take ownership of a club and pour billions into turning it into a genuine footballing superpower.

Under his watchful and affluent gaze, Chelsea were transformed and are now one of the biggest clubs on the planet.

1. Man City – Sheikh Mansour (£22.9bn)

p1fhd4p2ol1jqsdn21rqc1rqsglnm.jpg

The most loaded man in the Premier League, for now.

AS the chairman of the International Petroleum Investment Company, Mansour has other worldly amounts of money at his disposal and he certainly put it to good use with his takeover of Manchester City.

Since the 2008 takeover, City have raked in the silverware, winning five Premier League titles alongside a hefty haul of domestic cups.

Where will the new Newcastle owners rank?

p1fhd4s3f2148o1ejd1bj9vflepo.jpg

Simple answer, first, and by some distance.

Backed by the Crowned Prince of Saudi Arabia - the second most important position in the country after the King - the IPF is believed to be worth a paltry £320 billion.

Not only would that eclipse every other owner in the league, it would completely blow them clean out of the financial water.
