The King of the Ring tournament is back!

WWE has confirmed that the tournament is making a return on Friday Night Smackdown and will continue on Monday Night Raw.

The participants in the tournament have not actually been formally confirmed by WWE yet but Xavier Woods has confirmed that he is hoping to wrestle for the right to be crowned King.

His fellow New Day members Kofi Kingston and Big E have had huge crowning moments in recent years, with the former winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania in a classic match against Daniel Bryan, and the latter the current WWE Champion after cashing in his Money In The Bank contract to beat Bobby Lashley.

And Woods has now revealed that he is hoping to go head-to-head with Cesaro in the final of the tournament, with the Swiss Superman the one to have his shoulders pinned to the mat.

WWE posted a tweet on Wednesday asking what fans' dream match would be for the final of both King of the Ring and the Queen's Crown tournament.

And Woods replied, writing "#HailKingWoods", alongside a picture of him wrestling Cesaro.

It seems pretty clear that he wants to tangle with one of the best workers in the company for the crown, and we'd certainly love to see it too!

The King of the Ring tournament has been a long-running gimmick for WWE that first began in 1985, when Don Muraco won the crown, beating The Iron Sheik.

Since then, the likes of Harley Race, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Booker T and William Regal have all won the tournament.

The last King of the Ring tournament took place in 2019, when Baron Corbin beat Chad Gable in the final to be crowned King Corbin.

Keep an eye on WWE programming to see who the next King is!
