The long-running takeover of Newcastle United looks like it could finally be at an end.

It is believed that a deal worth somewhere in the region of £300 million has finally been approved by the Premier League following Saudi Arabia's decision to lift the ban on broadcaster BeIN Sports.

Backed by the bottomless Saudi wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, which is chaired by the Crowned Prince of Saudi, Newcastle are on the brink of becoming one of the richest clubs in the game.

In fact, the wealth of their potential new owners absolutely dwarves anything and everything else in the Premier League.

Naturally, after years of transfer misery, false dawns, and mid-table mediocrity, fans area allowing themselves to dream of the heady times ahead.

However, it seems that the fans aren't the only ones who might be getting a little far ahead of themselves, with bookmakers today slashing odds on the Magpies chances of signing some of the biggest names in the game.

Bookmakers slash odds on Newcastle transfers

In fact, the shift has been so dramatic that the club are now 4/1, according to Betfair, to sign one of Mohamed Salah, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham or Kylian Mbappe as soon as next summer.

However, it is important to note that any reports linking these lads to Newcastle are very tongue in cheek at the moment.

In reality, it took several years for Manchester City to start landing the biggest names in the game following their 2008 takeover and there is little suggest that it would be any different at St. James' Park.

However, just for fun, we thought we would take a look at where the individual odds stand with regards to Newcastle's transfer hopes.

Odds on Newcastle signing major stars

To sign Jude Bellingham next summer: 8/1
To sign Raheem Sterling next summer: 10/1
To sign Paul Pogba next summer: 20/1
To sign Kylian Mbappe next summer: 33/1
To sign Erling Haaland next summer: 50/1
To sign Mohamed Salah next summer: 66/1

Incredible - just imagine a world where Steve Bruce is posing next to Kylian Mbappe at a Newcastle unveiling?

Again, it might take a few years for Newcastle to work themselves into a position to sign players of that ilk, but the fact that they are even in the discussion is incredibly exciting.

It promises to be a busy time at the club over the next few months but, for once, it will be an exciting kind of busy.
