Molineux transfer news: "What a signing" - Wolves linked with 'fantastic' 50-cap star

Wolves' home ground, Molineux

Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne would be a “fantastic signing” for Wolves, according to Midlands journalist Luke Hatfield.

It has been claimed that the Premier League outfit are keeping tabs on Insigne’s situation at Napoli as he is into the final year of his contract at the club.

What’s the latest news involving Insigne?

The 30-year-old helped Italy win the European Championships in the summer, and picked up his 50th international cap last night in the team’s defeat to Spain in the UEFA Nations League semi-final. He looks set to remain an important part of Italy’s starting XI for a while yet, but his future at club level is less certain.

His Napoli contract runs out in less than nine months, and he is yet to agree fresh terms with his current employers. Wolves are understood to be keen on the forward if he decides against putting pen to paper on a new deal at Napoli.

What has Hatfield said about Insigne being linked with Wolves?

Hatfield believes that Insigne’s ability is unquestionable, and has claimed that the diminutive forward would be an excellent addition to the Wolves squad.

When asked about Insigne by GIVEMESPORT, Hatfield said: “What a signing that would be for Wolves if they could get Insigne in. A fantastic player, people have seen what he’s been all about over the past couple of years, and he showed it again at the Euros over the summer.

“Does he fit in at Wolves? He’d be a fantastic signing, he really would be.”

How many goals has Insigne scored for Napoli?

If Insigne were to move on from Napoli next summer, it would likely be an emotional farewell for him given that he came through the side’s youth setup.

Having made his first-team debut in 2010, he has lit up Serie A for over a decade, making 406 appearances for his boyhood club.

Who did Wolves beat on the opening day of the 2020/21 campaign?

In that time, he has scored 111 goals, while also providing 88 assists. Indeed, he had his best goalscoring season last year, netting 19 Serie A goals as Napoli narrowly missed out on a top four finish on the final day of the season.

This suggests that he is at his absolute peak as a player, despite recently entering his thirties, and if he does decide to switch Naples for Molineux, it would be Napoli’s loss and Wolves’ gain.
