Luke Hatfield has suggested Emi Buendia's recent omission from the Argentina squad will help him integrate better into life at Aston Villa

The Express and Star journalist has claimed the extra time spent at Bodymoor Heath could allow him to work his way back into Dean Smith's starting XI.

What's the latest news involving Emi Buendia?

Aston Villa signed Buendia from Norwich City in a club-record deal this summer, however things haven't quite gone to plan for the Midlands outfit's big-money addition.

Buendia has thus far provided just a single goal involvement for his new club and had to settle for a place on the bench in their last two fixtures against Manchester United and Tottenham.

That downturn in form compared to last season's return of 15 goals and 16 assists in the Championship appears to have cost Bunedia a place in the latest Argentina squad

However, Hatfield has suggested that could prove to be a blessing in disguise for the 24-year-old.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Emi Buendia?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Hatfield claimed that the international break will give Buendia more time to work on his game at Bodymoor Heath and potentially push his way back into Villa's starting XI.

He told GMS: "I think Buenda just needs a little more time on the pitch. I think it will help him not being with Argentina these next few weeks, being at Bodymoor Heath under Dean Smith and really getting an opportunity to train with his team-mates and hopefully work his way into the starting XI.

"After the performance against Spurs - he came on and he didn't do a whole lot, he didn't really have too much time to get into the game and impact things - he'll be hoping to make his way into the starting XI and he's got to do that by impressing in training.

"Hopefully a tweak in the system could see him played in his more natural position."

How much did Emi Buendia cost?

Aston Villa reportedly paid £33m to sign Buendia from Norwich in the summer transfer window, however that fee could rise to £38m.

Interestingly, Transfermarkt value the midfielder at £31.5m, suggesting Villa may have overpaid slightly for the South American.

He's currently Aston Villa's record arrival, eclipsing what they spent on the likes of Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings over the last two summers.

Buendia will be hoping he quickly goes on to justify that price-tag after an underwhelming start to life at his new club.
