Celtic news: Hoops 'will win the league under Ange Postecoglou'

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou showing his frustration

Journalist Stuart Hodge believes that Celtic will win the Scottish Premier League under Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian coach only took the Celtic job four months ago, but Hodge already seems to have a very high opinion of him.

What's the latest news at Celtic?

The Hoops have had a mixed start to their campaign with Postecoglou in charge. They picked up back-to-back 6-0 league wins against Dundee and St. Mirren in August, but have also suffered three defeats on their travels in Scotland's top-flight this term.

Postecoglou's men have also had a baptism of fire in the Europa League, losing to Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen, conceding four goals in each of these matches, to leave their European hopes hanging by a thread.

What has Hodge said about Postecoglou?

Despite some obvious setbacks during his short reign so far, Hodge has still seen enough from Postecoglou to suggest that he is the right man for the job.

He has urged Celtic's board to remain patient with the 56-year-old, as he believes that Postecoglou can take the team back to the top of the table if he is given time to implement his ideas.

Speaking about the matter with GIVEMESPORT, Hodge said: “As long as he gets time and Celtic’s board don’t do another very stupid thing, then Ange Postecoglou will turn Celtic into a really good team and will win the league playing football ‘the Celtic way.’”

Can Postecoglou win the league with Celtic?

It looks like a tough ask for Postecoglou to get Celtic back to the summit of Scottish football this season, as things stand.

His side are currently six points adrift of leaders Rangers, and have only picked up three points from their four away fixtures in the SPL thus far. That is not going to get the job done when it comes to overhauling Steven Gerrard's team.

Who scored Celtic's first goal of the season?

Still, it is easy to see why Hodge is excited about the future under Postecoglou. Celtic have scored 19 goals in the league - five more than any other team in the division - and have played some scintillating football at times.

Postecoglou now needs to get the balance right between attack and defence, while also figuring out how Celtic can start picking up consistent results away from home.

If he can manage that, then the club will start to move in the right direction, and could regain the title in the next season or two.
