Lewis Hamilton has been hit with a 10-place grid penalty for this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix with Mercedes making the call to fit a new internal combustion engine (ICE) to his car.

Much of the talk around the Formula 1 paddock this weekend in Istanbul has been over whether Lewis would be taking fresh components to his car, with the view to that obviously sparking a penalty for the grid as he is already at the limit for parts.

Indeed, we saw Max Verstappen take a full new power unit at the Russian Grand Prix last time out to send him to the back of the grid and Hamilton now faces a similar task of damage limitation, though his penalty is less severe.

The power unit in a Formula 1 car is comprised of several components and Mercedes have decided that they'll only change the ICE rather than overhaul the entire thing, meaning a less severe penalty will be induced for the race Sunday.

It means the highest starting spot Hamilton will have on the grid this weekend is 11th, then, and he'll be looking to set as fast a time as possible in qualifying to give him the best chance of recording a still decent result on Sunday at a track where he won his seventh world title last year.
