Roberto Martinez wants to focus on improving Wigan Athletic's results after confirming talks with reported Arsenal and Liverpool target Hugo Rodallega regarding a new contract are ongoing.

The 26-year-old Colombian international has long been linked with the DW Stadium exit door, as a number of Barclays Premier League clubs circled.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has been credited with an interest in Rodallega, but Liverpool moved to strengthen their midfield and forward department with a number of other signings in a summer of change at Anfield.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is also a known admirer of the player, as he looked for attacking reinforcements at the Emirates Stadium following the summer sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

"We're still talking," confirmed Martinez. "He's very important to us and he's still developing as a young man.

"We've got a very good relationship with his agent, who is in Colombia, so it's sometimes difficult to have continuity in our talks."

With Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll, Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy already in their forward ranks, it is unclear whether Liverpool are still keen to continue their pursuit of Rodallega.

However, it is clear that Arsenal are lacking in numbers, with Nicklas Bendtner on loan with Sunderland, they can only count Robin van Persie and Maroaune Chamakh among their recognised first-team strikers.

"We all know he's got the potential to play at any club in world football," continued Martinez. "We need to enjoy him while he's with us.

"But it's important that we focus on getting a positive result on the pitch and then all of the individual results will be resolved."
