Jurgen Klopp's first Liverpool XI and the subs - where are they now?

Jurgen Klopp during his first Liverpool game vs Spurs in 2015

Jurgen Klopp was appointed as Liverpool's manager on October 8, 2015.

The German manager took over a side that were struggling badly in the Premier League.

The Reds had started the 2015/16 season off poorly and were 10th after eight games played.

Klopp's first game came on October 17, 2015 against Tottenham at White Hart Lane. The game ended 0-0.

But who featured for Liverpool that day?

We've taken a trip down memory lane and looked back at Klopp's first 18-man squad and listed where they are now.

It really does make you realise how far Liverpool have come and how incredible a job Klopp has done...

GK: Simon Mignolet

Where he is in 2021? Club Brugge

Mignolet was Klopp's number one for a few years but some poor mistakes saw him lose favour.

He left for Club Brugge in 2019, where he still is today.

RB: Nathaniel Clyne

Where he is in 2021? Crystal Palace

Clyne was Klopp's first-choice right-back for a few seasons but a series of serious injuries curtailed his progress.

Now 30, he currently plays for Crystal Palace, the club where he started his career.

CB: Martin Skrtel

Where is he in 2021? Spartak Trnava

Skrtel didn't last long under Klopp as he was sold to Fenerbahce in the summer of 2016.

He had stints at Atalanta (which only lasted three weeks) and İstanbul Başakşehir and is now back in Slovakia with Spartak Trnava.

CB: Mamadou Sakho

Where is he in 2021? Montpellier

So much was expected of Sakho at Liverpool but his time at the club were riddled with errors.

He left in 2017, joining Crystal Palace in a £26 million move. He never established himself as a regular at the club and joined Montpellier earlier this summer on a free transfer.

LB: Alberto Moreno

Where is he in 2021? Villarreal

Another defender who made error after error in a Liverpool shirt.

He left the club in 2019, joining Villarreal. He proved he was still Liverpool through and through in the 2021 Europa League final.

The Spaniard helped his side beat Man United and then mocked them on Instagram after the game.

CM: Emre Can

Where is he in 2021? Borussia Dortmund

Can was a regular under Klopp but ran down his contract and ended up joining Juventus on a free transfer in 2018.

His move didn't work out, though. He flopped at the Italian club and joined Dortmund, where he is today.

CM: Lucas Leiva

Where is he in 2021? Lazio

Lucas will always be well thought of at Liverpool. He made 346 times for the club before departing for Lazio in 2017. Now 34, he's still a regular at the Italian club.

LW: Philippe Coutinho

Where is he in 2021? Barcelona

Liverpool lost their star player, Coutinho, in 2018 as he joined Barcelona in a mammoth £142m move.

While the Reds have improved massively since then, Coutinho has gone in the other direction.

Now 29, he should be in the prime of his career but struggles to get in the team in Catalonia.

CAM: Adam Lallana

Where is he in 2021? Brighton & Hove Albion.

Lallana was a decent servant to Liverpool. He spent six seasons at the club before joining Brighton in 2020.

RW: James Milner

Where is he in 2021? Liverpool

Milner, now 35, is still going strong. He doesn't play as much as he once did but Klopp still has the confidence to play him when needed.

ST: Divock Origi

Where is he in 2021? Liverpool

Origi has never been a regular at the Reds but he's gone down in folklore after his contributions as Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019.

He's still at the club but is well down the pecking order.
