Emmet Gates would give up Mohamed Salah to bring Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool.

The journalist has argued that Mbappe remains the better long-term option for the Premier League club, and also described the PSG star as a 'generational talent'.

What's the latest news involving Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe?

Salah has been the Premier League's form player so far this season.

The Egypt international has notched six goals and three assists in just seven Premier League outings, including a stunning solo effort against Manchester City last Sunday.

However, Salah's contract at Anfield is due to expire in 2023 and although the club are reportedly eager to agree a new deal, until it is signed the prospect remains that Liverpool could eventually be forced to cash-in on their star man.

Mbappe, meanwhile, is into the last year of his contract at PSG and has made no secret of the fact he wanted to leave during the summer.

Liverpool have been mentioned as potential suitors, although Real Madrid appear the likeliest candidates to acquire his services.

What has Emmet Gates said about Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Gates claimed that it was highly unlikely Liverpool could afford to both sign Mbappe and keep Salah at the club due to the Anfield wage structure. Salah wants in excess of £300k per week to sign a new contract, whereas Mbappe already earns over £400k per week at PSG.

The journalist was asked whether he'd part with Salah in order to sign Mbappe, and Gates responded by revealing he would make that sacrifice.

He told GMS: "I would give up Salah to sign Mbappe because Mbappe’s 22. We don’t know what the future holds but he’s one of those ultra-athletes who looks after himself and just loves football, so you could be talking ten-plus years of immaculate service from Mbappe.

"Salah is now verging on turning 30 and maybe at most offers six or seven years. And Mbappe is a generational talent."

Is Mohamed Salah the best player in the world?

Such questions are always open to subjectivity and interpretation. There's a strong argument for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi still being the best players in the world as they share an incredible eleven Ballon d'Ors between them and are still plying their trade at the top end of the game.

Nonetheless, there is certainly a case for Salah based on current form. Throughout Europe's top five leagues, just three players have outscored him so far this season, while only Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski are ahead of him for overall goal involvements.

Considering the Premier League is widely regarded as the most challenging top flight in Europe, Salah is arguably playing against tougher opposition than Benzema and Lewandowski, making his goal contributions more noteworthy.

Ultimately though, Salah will need to win FIFA's Best Player award for 2021 to be undisputed as world football's top talent. The Liverpool star is yet to rank in the top three for the individual accolade.
