Team GB star Bianca Walkden isn’t wholly satisfied despite winning a second bronze medal at her second successive Olympic Games.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on Tuesday, the 30-year-old said she still has plenty left in the tank, and spoke about her ambitions going forward.
“Straight away, almost as soon as I got back home to my family, I said I’m going to give it one more go,” she said.
“One ‘Last Dance’, like Michael Jordan said in his documentary, and hopefully I can turn this bronze into a gold.”
Walkden, speaking at an event with LSH Auto, also revealed she is a ‘massive’ fan of the UFC, and was full of praise for her fellow Liverpudlians Molly McCann and Paddy Pimblett.
“Obviously it’s a lot more brutal than taekwondo, but I am a big fan of the UFC, I love watching it,” she said.
“The Scousers are doing really well in it, aren’t they, which always helps.
“‘Paddy the Baddy’ and Molly [McCann] are coming up through the rankings, they’re both doing great things.
“I’ve always followed [Conor] McGregor, he made the sport massive, and it’s just got bigger and bigger.
“If anything, it’s helping our sport as well, and I’d definitely like to give it a go one day.”
And while it won’t happen any time soon, she did say that she would consider ditching the gi in favour of the 40oz gloves if the right opportunity presented itself.
“If I’m good enough, if I find the right gym, I’ll definitely give it a go,” Walkden said about a fight under mixed martial arts rules. “I’d need to find a team first, but if I can get that sorted, then I don’t see why not.”
Winning a gold medal is evidently the current goal, but who knows – we might see her swapping the dojang for the Strictly ballroom before too long.
“Oh my god yes I would love to, I have two left feet but please let me have a go, I would love to go on Strictly.
“I think Adam Peaty looks great in it, I think he’s going to do fantastic, he’s got everyone watching him anyway and we’re all behind him and supporting him at home.
“Hopefully I’ll get my dancing shoes on next year and he can put in a good word for me, I’ve got two left feet but we’ll have to see, I’ll definitely get some spinning kicks out on the dance floor.”
