Tom Barclay doesn't believe that Jordan Ayew is a long-term solution for Crystal Palace – and thinks that his recent missed chances have been getting on "Palace fans'" nerves.

Ayew has played more than 100 appearances for the Eagles since signing from Swansea three years ago but is yet to get off the mark this season.

What's the latest news with Ayew?

The striker, capped 65 times for Ghana, has generally proved a decent servant for Palace over the previous three campaigns, but his days at Selhurst Park appeared to be numbered.

Ayew's best return for the club came when he scored nine goals in 37 Premier League appearances during the 2019-2020, including a wonderful solo effort against West Ham.

However, the Ghanaian hasn't been able to replicate that form, scoring just once in his previous 42 outings across all competitions and hasn't been on target since netting against Leeds last November.

Despite his lack of goals, Ayew has continued to find himself in the starting XI under Patrick Vieira, starting all but one of their eight competitive matches under the Frenchman.

But Barclay reckons that the supporters' patience is growing thin with Ayew, especially after the golden opportunity he squandered against rivals Brighton, which would have put Palace into a 2-0 lead, only for Neal Maupay to rescue a last-gasp point for the Seagulls.

What did Barclay say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Jordan Ayew, I don't think is the real long-term solution. He's been reliable from a disciplined point of view, but he's missed a few chances which is getting on Palace fans' nerves, but you know what you're getting with Jordan Ayew."

Why are Palace fans growing frustrated with Ayew?

It's simple, Ayew isn't scoring enough goals. It took summer signing Odsonne Edouard just six minutes against Tottenham to score more than he managed throughout the whole of last season.

The fact he's still being regularly named in Vieira's side clearly suggests that he's offering more than goals, but Palace don't find the net often enough, meaning when the chances come, they need to be taken.

That opportunity, which should have been put away, will stick in the minds of the Palace fans, who would have most likely gone on to beat Brighton rather than collect just a point.

Ayew's place in the team could now come under threat, though, after his replacement against Leicester, Michael Olise, sparked the comeback against the Foxes and some Palace supporters are calling for the former Swansea man to be dropped permanently.
