Andre Villas-Boas has further reiterated his support for John Terry by dedicating Chelsea's win against Everton to his under-fire captain.

Terry is under investigation from both the Football Association and the Metropolitan Police over alleged racial remarks he made to Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand on Sunday.

The England skipper was left out of Chelsea's squad to face Everton in Wednesday's Carling Cup encounter, in which Daniel Sturridge booked the Blues a place last eight.

Salomon Kalou had opened the scoring for the visitors before Louis Saha levelled after Ross Turnball had seen red.

And Villas-Boas took the opportunity to publicly back Terry once again after watching his side win on Merseyside.

"The spirit of the players took us through," the Chelsea boss told Sky Sports.

"I think all of the players would like to dedicate the win to John Terry.

"We deserved it for what we put on as an effort and for the football we played.

"To be fair, I think we had the worst of the draws. It was a difficult game to play, Everton would like to challenge for silverware and the commitment they had to this competition made them a strong team."
