Lewis Hamilton was the fastest in Turkish Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday afternoon but Valtteri Bottas is the man who will start from pole position for Sunday's race in Istanbul.

An early threat of a rain shower at the start of the session meant every driver was out on the circuit trying to get lap times in, though the surface was still slippery from earlier downpours.

No further rain actually fell, or at least enough to really impact tyre choice, however, and the track gradually improved in terms of grip offering throughout the hour, meaning lap-times got quicker and quicker.

Throughout the hour, Hamilton looked particularly strong in his Mercedes, with him opting for a higher downforce set-up than teammate Valtteri Bottas and that would pay dividends in the end with him setting the fastest time of all.

However, the Briton is carrying a grid penalty of ten places for tomorrow's race with him changing the ICE component on his Mercedes power unit and so will start 11th, though he's done the best he could in terms of damage limitation.

Valtteri Bottas' job, then, will be to try and win the race ahead of Max Verstappen who will line up in second on the grid, whilst Charles Leclerc starts from third and Pierre Gasly, impressive all weekend, will go from fourth when it comes to lights out.
