Luke Hatfield has claimed Wolves will definitely be keeping tabs on midfielder Renato Sanches following his return from injury.

The Express and Star journalist further added that the Molineux side were eager to sign the Portugal international during the summer.

What's the latest news involving Renato Sanches?

Wolves were reportedly in talks over a loan deal for Sanches during the final few days of the summer transfer window - despite the fact he was expected to be sidelined for another month due to a knee injury.

However, they failed to reach an agreement with Lille despite Sanches reportedly being the target manager Bruno Lage wanted to sign most in the summer, with his injury scuppering the deal.

The Midlands side's only noteworthy late addition in the summer was Hwang Hee-chan, who was signed on loan from RB Leipzig.

But Sanches has now returned to action and recently played the full ninety minutes in a 3-3 draw with Metz.

That would suggest he is already somewhere close to full fitness and considering Wolves' summer interest, it wouldn't be surprising to see them try and revive a deal in the next transfer window.

Lage's side are currently a little light on bodies in the middle of the park, while it remains to be seen how much football Joao Moutinho can play going forward at the age of 35.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Renato Sanches?

Hatfield was asked whether Wolves will be keeping tabs on Sanches following his return from injury and his response was pretty emphatic.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Midlands journalist said: "Yeah they definitely will. They were so keen to get him in the summer and obviously the injury issues that he had scuppered that."

Whether Wolves would be looking to rekindle a potential loan deal for the Portuguese midfielder or try to sign him permanently - his Lille contract is on the verge of entering its final 18 months - remains to be seen.

What is Renato Sanches' position?

Sanches is a central midfielder, although he has been used as a winger and as a No.10 throughout his career.

That highlights the technical quality the 24-year-old brings to the engine room, not to mention his ability to glide past opposition players - he averaged 1.7 successful dribbles per match in Ligue 1 last season.

Ultimately, Sanches is a box-to-box midfielder and has been compared previously to Dutch icon Edgar Davids, while the Portuguese himself has likened his playing style to Clarence Seedorf.

He still has a long way to go to reach the same heights as either of those legendary names, however.
