Liverpool transfer news: "Tailor-made for Klopp's system" - Fresh claim after £84.92m bid

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign Federico Chiesa

Journalist Emmet Gates has claimed Federico Chiesa would be the perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s system at Liverpool

However, he also warned that the Anfield club are unlikely to sign the Italian any time soon with Juventus unwilling to let him go.

What’s the latest news involving Federico Chiesa?

Chiesa was one of the breakout stars of Euro 2020, playing a pivotal role for Italy as they won the summer tournament with two goals in seven appearances.

But it appears the 23-year-old’s rise to prominence has been anticipated for some time, at least by those on Merseyside.

As reported by The Liverpool Echo, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio recently claimed that Liverpool were keen on signing Chiesa from Fiorentina back in 2020.

He said: “One of the first teams that had asked Fiorentina for Chiesa was Liverpool. But Chiesa said: ‘No, I don’t want to go to the Premier League because I want to stay in Italy.’

“He had already promised himself to Juve for a while. Liverpool always arrive early for certain players. They had already arrived for Chiesa, but both Federico and his father said no to the Premier League at that moment.”

And Liverpool apparently moved for Chiesa again during the summer, with reports from Italy claiming they saw a €100m (£84.92m) bid for the forward rejected.

What has Emmet Gates said about Federico Chiesa?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Gates claimed that Chiesa would be a perfect fit for the way Klopp likes to play – but dismissed the idea of him turning up at Anfield any time soon.

He told GMS: “If there’s any player tailor-made for Klopp’s system it would be Federico Chiesa.

“He’s explosive, he’s brilliant in one-on-one duels, and he can play on the left, he can play on the right. Him and Mohamed Salah together would be mouth-watering for Liverpool fans, but there’s zero chance of Juventus letting him go.”

How many goals has Federico Chiesa scored?

Excluding his time spent with Fiorentina’s youth team, Chiesa has scored 50 goals in 203 appearances at club level.

That may not seem like a particularly impressive total, but there has been a noteworthy progression in his goals over the last few years.

Chiesa has also scored four goals in 33 appearances for Italy, with two of those coming during the summer’s European Championship.
