Valtteri Bottas has won the Turkish Grand Prix ahead of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, with Lewis Hamilton down in fifth place.

Istanbul Park was the latest backdrop for the Formula 1 world championship and it was the Finn who enjoyed himself most in the damp conditions, converting his pole position start into a maximum points haul come the chequered flag.

He started on pole, of course, after Lewis Hamilton was given a 10-place grid penalty for engine component changes earlier on in the weekend, with the Briton tasked with starting from 11th and looking to pull off a recovery drive.

Indeed, it was Hamilton's surge through the field that provided the main plotline to this Grand Prix, with Bottas looking rather under control out in front ahead of Dutchman Verstappen.

The Briton would run as high as third at one point, too, and seemed eager to stay out on his intermediate tyres when those all around him had stopped, though Mercedes eventually managed to bring him in with him almost effectively running on slicks by this point thanks to tyre wear.

It was a decision that left Hamilton in fifth, losing places to Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc, and one that during the race Lewis wasn't particularly happy with, with him not having enough laps left to try and get back a podium spot.

Hindsight, though, is a wonderful thing and perhaps the play would have been to come in earlier when everyone else did, though Hamilton on circuit repeatedly said that he felt as though he had enough grip.

The Mercedes man, then, now trails Verstappen by six points in the Drivers' standings, with the United States Grand Prix up next in a fortnight in Austin.
