Journalist Luke Hatfield reckons that West Brom manager Valerien Ismael had high hopes for striker Kenneth Zohore in pre-season.

The Danish striker featured in each of the Baggies' four friendlies in the build-up to the new Championship season, scoring the winner at Woking and then claiming an assist at Birmingham.

What's the latest news with Zohore?

He appeared to be in the reckoning in pre-season, with the West Brom boss indicating that the big striker was firmly part of his plans for the upcoming campaign.

However, the former Cardiff frontman, who spent last term on loan at Millwall, hasn't played a single minute in the league since the opening two fixtures, with his only minutes coming for a youthful Baggies side against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup back in August.

Ismael told Birmingham Live that Zohore is still capable of scoring goals at Championship level despite his recent injury problems. That hasn't been the case at the Hawthorns, though, with the 27-year-old finding the net just five times in 23 appearances and not since March 2020.

Zohore hasn't started a Championship match for the Midlands outfit for more than 18 months and Hatfield reckons that the Dane has never quite justified the £8.01m fee that West Brom paid Cardiff two years ago.

What did Hatfield say?

When asked about the current situation with Zohore, he told GIVEMESPORT: "He's just out of favour. We saw him in pre-season and Ismael was expecting something from him because we saw a really good performance against Blues in pre-season and it looked like he was really buying into the style of play, and we were finally going to see Kenneth Zohore because we haven't properly seen him at Albion.

"He's scored a few goals from the penalty spot and the odd one here or there, but we've never really seen him show any form to warrant the price-tag that was paid for him."

What's likely to happen with Zohore?

Having not been involved in West Brom's last nine league matches, it appears that his days at the Hawthorns are clearly numbered.

With that in mind, it's set to be a frustrating few months for Zohore before he's able to cut ties and move on in some capacity when the January window opens.
