Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has backed Conor Gallagher for a big future at Chelsea and reckons that it's an "insane" time to be a Blues supporter right now.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at London rivals Crystal Palace this season and has already made a huge impact during his short stay at Selhurst Park.

What's the latest news with Gallagher?

The midfielder has been with Chelsea for more than 10 years, although he's yet to make a single first-team appearance for his boyhood club.

However, Gallagher has enjoyed productive loan spells at Charlton and West Brom in recent years and now at Palace, which should put him in good stead for if he ever returns to Chelsea and stays there.

Gallagher was one of the Baggies' standouts in their relegation season in 2020-2021 and has continued where he left off since he joined Palace.

He's already scored two goals and provided one assist in six appearances, although that doesn't include the two penalties he won against Tottenham and Brighton.

Gallagher needs to perform at an even higher level if he wants to make the grade under Tuchel, but Bridge has seen enough to suggest that is likely to be the case.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I honestly think he does have a future at Chelsea. What a time to be a Chelsea fan right now, it's insane, they've got such a great team."

When might Gallagher's opportunity come at Chelsea?

With Saul, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic, N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all fighting for just two midfield roles at Stamford Bridge, it's looking like a daunting prospect for Gallagher to break through any time soon.

However, it's unlikely that those six will still be at the club next season, especially with Saul only on loan and one of Barkley or Loftus-Cheek likely to be moved on.

Gallagher has scored as many Premier League goals this season (2) as those six combined and is outperforming each of those besides Kovacic according to WhoScored, with a season-rating of 7.19.

The 21-year-old still has some way to go before Tuchel will be seriously considering him as part of his plans for next season, but if he continues scoring and assisting against top quality Premier League opponents, he surely won't keep being ignored.
