Georginio Wijnaldum swapped Liverpool for Paris over the summer after an incredibly fruitful time at Anfield.

Having made the switch from Newcastle, Wijnaldum was one of the driving the forces behind the Jurgen Klopp revolution, becoming the German's go-to midfield engine.

In the red of Liverpool, Wijnaldum won a glut of titles and will go down in history as one of the stars behind Liverpool ending their painful Premier League drought.

Sadly, with his contract winding down, Wijnaldum and the club simply couldn't come to an accord over a new deal and PSG swooped to snap him up on a free deal.

It was an odd departure - it seems that both parties desperately wanted to continue the relationship and yet he left anyway.

Wijnaldum recently claimed that he felt unwanted by certain sections of the fans but Jamie Carragher wasn't having any of that at the time.

Fast forward to present day and, sadly for the Dutch star, the move to Paris hasn't quite gone according to plan yet, with Wijnaldum struggling to nail down a spot in the team.

Such has been Wijnaldum's struggles throughout his PSG spell, that he is only ranked as the 22nd-best player at the club so far according to WhoScored.

In fact, Wijnaldum himself has admitted that, after spending time warming the bench, that he is not exactly happy with how things have gone so far.

“I can’t say I’m completely happy,” Wijnaldum, who has been a substitute in PSG’s last three outings, said, per talkSPORT. “Because the situation is not what I wanted.

“But that’s football and I’ll have to learn to deal with that. I’m a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around.”

“I think [not playing], it’s a primary concern for every player,” Wijnaldum added.

“It’s also worrying if you don’t play. But it’s just the beginning of the season. A lot can still happen and I stay positive.”

Will Bukayo Saka become world-class?

You can imagine that there are a few Liverpool fans feeling rather smug upon reading that Wijnaldum is discovering that the grass isn't always greener.

However, as he said, the season is still young and, considering what he achieved at Liverpool, Wijnaldum could easily work his way into the starting line-up.

Should he start to hit his best form, then he could prove to be a valuable asset for PSG as they chase their first Champions League title.
