NXT is really beginning to focus on the future right now, with Carmelo Hayes winning the North American Championship from Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott on last night's show. 

On last night's episode of WWE NXT, Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott defeated long-time rival Santos Escobar in the show's main event to successfully retain the North American Championship.

During the match, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams came down to the ring to fight off Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza, but their union with Swerve didn't last too long.

After the match, Hayes turned on Scott and used the contract he obtained after winning the Breakout tournament to challenge the North American Champion to a title match.

Carmelo Hayes ended up pinning Isaiah Swerve Scott following a top rope diving leg drop, becoming the North American Champion for the first time in his career.

This is not only the first time Carmelo Hayes has won the North American Championship in NXT, but it's also the first time he's won a title of any capacity since signing with WWE in February 2021.

Taking to Twitter after the show, Carmelo Hayes promised to turn the North American Championship into the top title in NXT, posting:

Isaiah Swerve Scott and the rest of Hit Row were called up to SmackDown as part of the 2021 WWE Draft, so this will have presumably been the faction's final match for Triple H's brand.
