Dillian Whyte has claimed that Deontay Wilder may 'never want to fight again' as he questioned the American's motivation to return to the ring. 

Wilder has been absent from social media since his trilogy fight with Tyson Fury ended in defeat on Saturday night. 

The Bronze Bomber spent two nights in hospital after being on the receiving end of a savage beating from The Gypsy King. 

Wilder's trainer Malik Scott has since come out and said that his fighter has no plans of retiring at all and it is not something they have discussed but former British heavyweight champion Whyte has rebuffed those claims.   

The interim WBC heavyweight champion does not believe boxing fans will see the former world champion in the ring again after competing in the biggest fight of his career and coming up short, suffering a hand injury in the process.  

"He took a lot of punishment, it could have finished his career potentially," Whyte told Sky Sports.

"He could have finished his career.

"Last time Mark Breland stopped him, which I think saved his career, this time he took way too much punishment.

"A lot of his corner were yes men and they just allowed him to take too much punishment which can also be very detrimental to a fighter's confidence and his body as well.

"His ear was bleeding, he seemed pretty beat up, he was struggling from like round three onwards badly. 

"Obviously he says I'm a king and I'll go out on my shield and this, that and the other.

"But I think they allowed him to take too much punishment Saturday, I think personally, so I don't know, it could affect him mentally, he could never want to fight again, it could end his career, but we'll have to see how it goes." 

Scott himself has suggested otherwise, insisting: "Deontay has set his family financially secure so he doesn't have to fight to make a living.

"But retiring is not in his plans at all and not something we've discussed."
