Formula 1 has released footage of the team radio between Lewis Hamilton and his race engineer Peter Bonnington after the Turkish Grand Prix and it's safe to say things were pretty frosty inside the helmet of the reigning champ.

Hamilton came home in P5 at the Istanbul circuit on Sunday afternoon, having recovered well from his starting spot of P11 after an engine change enforced a ten-place grid penalty.

However, he was disappointed it could not have been a higher finish with him running in third at one point and making the case in-race that he should be allowed to eke out his current set of well-worn tyres to the finish in order to try and achieve a podium spot.

In the end, of course, he did pit at the request of Mercedes and dropped to fifth with the team worried he'd suffer a blowout and possible retirement on his old tyres, though at the time Hamilton was naturally upset at the points he had lost out on.

Indeed, a few fraught messages were exchanged immediately after the stop on the radio, whilst Hamilton was then clearly full of frustration at the chequered flag, with this video released by Formula 1 on Twitter:

Passions and emotions, of course, run deep during a race and especially just after a Grand Prix where a result is crystallised and you can't do any more to change it.

You could understand Lewis' frustrations, too, as he felt he had a chance of third place but you must also respect that Mercedes had more information available to them than their driver, and they perhaps made the wiser call eventually getting him in for fresh rubber.

In fairness to Lewis, he has already moved on from the incident with this Instagram post - shared by The Race on Twitter - and come the US Grand Prix later this month it'll be a real thing of the past:
