Newcastle World journalist Liam Kennedy believes that the club's assistant coach Graeme Jones has made a significant impact since arriving on Tyneside.

The 51-year-old joined the Newcastle coaching staff at the start of the year, and now could be set to be placed in charge of the team on an interim basis.

What's the latest news involving Jones?

It has been a whirlwind week for the Toon Army following their takeover last Thursday, which ended Mike Ashley's 14-year tenure as owner.

According to reports, Steve Bruce's job is in serious jeopardy as the side have failed to win their opening seven league games of the season, with Frank Lampard and Lucien Favre linked with taking the Newcastle hotseat.

However, the club may not appoint their next manager immediately, and if Bruce does depart, it has been claimed that Jones could be at the helm for a short period.

What has Kennedy said about Jones?

Kennedy feels that despite results going against the Magpies so far this season, Jones has helped improve the team's tactical awareness.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the matter, he said: “There has been an enormous difference in the way that Newcastle have set up. More of a tactical awareness, whether those tactics have always been right, again, as I say, I don’t think they’ve got it right this season. There was none of this before.”

“When players were changed or systems were changed, it was almost ad hoc. You couldn’t see the thinking behind it. It was random. With this, you can at least see that there’s a plan in place, which as been a big benefit of having Graeme Jones in.”

Would Jones be a good option for Newcastle on a short-term basis?

Given that Newcastle have just been taken over my multi-billionaire owners, it seems inevitable that the club will hire a higher profile manager than Jones to try and achieve their ambitious aims moving forwards.

Still, Jones could be a strong candidate to steady the ship on a short-term basis, as he has already made a big impression at St James' Park and knows the players well.

The takeover appears to have brought a feel-good factor back to the club, and Jones seems to be a more popular figure than Bruce, so it makes sense to give him the job for a game or two while Newcastle ensure that they get the right man for the long-term role.
