Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has opened up about his difficult childhood and upbringing, even revealing that he used to have to shoplift as a youngster.

Wrestling wasn't as glamorous back in the day, so despite his father wrestling, it's widely known that when The Rock was 14 years old, the Johnson family was evicted from their apartment in Hawaii

After the incident, The Rock went to live with one of his father's friends, Bruno Lauer (better known as Harvey Wippleman) in a hotel.

In an in-depth interview with Vanity, The Rock spoke about this time in his life, revealing that things were so rough that he had to steal clothes and chocolate bars:

“I just didn’t want to wear the same old shorts and T-shirt and flip-flops every day”—though he would also lift a king-size Snickers from the same 7-Eleven every day between 4 and 4:30 in the afternoon as he walked the three or four miles to the gym. Just breezed in, breezed out, without buying anything else. “They had to have known,” he now reflects.”

This story was corroborated by Bruno Lauer, who also spoke in the interview about The Rock's stealing as a teenager:

“He’ll tell you himself—he was a thief,”

‘Bruno, you want some cigarettes? I got you a quart of beer. I got us some hot dogs, some this, some that…. I got me a radio….’ ” Johnson would pretend that people had given him the stuff for free because they were fans of Lauer or of his father, but of course Lauer knew the truth. “Hell, back then I didn’t have any morals either,” Lauer says. “I was benefiting too!”

The Rock opened up about being arrested for stealing, which was the point where he decided he needed to get on the right path:

“I started caring that night. I’ll never forget it. I’ll never forget going to bed going, ‘Of all the s*** my mom has been through and that I have been right there watching and witnessing, now I am compounding it with my dumb-ass decisions.’”

From being arrested to becoming President. In the interview, The Rock didn't rule out the possibility of running a campaign to become US President, which you can read more about by clicking here.

The Rock could be set to return to WWE next month, with reports indicating that the former WWE Champion could be involved at Survivor Series on November 21.
