Prior to Manchester City's 2-2 draw with Liverpool earlier this month, Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane took a swipe at England right-back Kyle Walker, branding him a "car-crash" who makes "too many mistakes" defensively.
Keane did, though, admit that the 31-year-old has still managed to have "a very good career" despite his defensive flaws.
Essentially, this is a testament to the evolution of the full-back, the ideal attributes for which have changed considerably since the turn of the century.
Once almost exclusively a defensive role, many modern-day right-backs are expected to contribute just as much in the attacking third of the field as they do at the back.
The ability to bomb forward down the flank and chip in frequently with assists (and even goals) is highly prized by top clubs.

Once the exceptionally creative 22-year-old forges an understanding with the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, it seems inevitable that the assists will flow at the Parc des Princes for the third-placed entry.
Even being ranked fourth in the world isn't enough to see Walker reign as the best right-back at the Etihad, though, as versatile Portuguese star Joao Canelo is slotted in at number two on the list. The 27-year-old, who can play in a whole host of positions, has a genuine claim as one of the most in-form players in world football in the last few years.

Ultimately, however, it is Liverpool's Trent-Alexander-Arnold who takes home the top spot. An ever-willing runner on the overlap for club and country, the 23-year-old already boasts Champions League and Premier League winners' medals in his career - and can also hang his hat on having taken that corner against Barcelona.
The nature of ranking players means that it will never be possible to please everybody, but it's hard to deny the quality of those included.
