Mercedes are feeling confident and 'reassured' that they have the pace to beat Red Bull outright in the final races of the season to secure both the Formula 1 Drivers' and Constructors' titles.

It's been an enthralling fight between the two teams and their two star drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, this year, and it's still anyone's guess as to where both championships are going to head come the end of the campaign.

Mercedes, though, will be buoyed by recent performances at both Sochi and Istanbul - two races that they won at - with their car looking particularly strong and certainly seeming to have the measure of the Red Bull.

Of course, things can and probably will swing the other way in the final six races and some circuits will favour Red Bull but Mercedes are appearing bullish over the run-in and are feeling as though they have a package good enough to get things over the line in the final portion of this campaign:

“We’ve had another good run of form in the dry, we’ve shown good pace here in the wet and it looks like a car that can win championships,” Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin said following on from the weekend in Istanbul.

“If you go back to the early part of the year there are decisions that we’re trying to take on development, trying to balance the two years, one of our worries was that at this end of the year are we still going to be able to stick the car on pole to get a front row lockout to control a race?

“It’s really reassuring that we’re now getting into the last six that we’ve shown we’ve got a package that can outqualify them on a Saturday and out-race them on a Sunday.”

Of course, Mercedes know how hard Red Bull will be trying to wrestle their grip away from the two championships and both teams are going to be working around the clock in order to try and get the performance advantage they need over the other in the final races.

We're set for a brilliant end to this campaign, and it's going to be fascinating seeing who prevails.
