Barcelona still have a few injuries going into the clash, with Ibrahim Afellay (knee), Alexis Sanchez (hamstring) and Pedro (knee) all out. Cesc Fabregas looks set to make a return after recovering from a hamstring strain, while Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique look likely to be rested.

Plzen will be without Roman Pavlik once more, with a long term knee injury still affecting him.

Messi leads charge for Ballon d’Or

Lionel Messi is odds on favourite to take out the Ballon d’Or for the third year running, with the midfielder nominated alongside 22 other stars in the race for world football’s highest individual honour.

Messi is one of eight of players from Barcelona who are up for the award, with Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique, Dani Alves, Eric Adibal, Andres Iniesta, David Villa and Xavi also shortlisted.

Pep Guardiola has also been nominated for the manager of the year award, with the Spaniard taking Barcelona to La Liga and Champions League glory over the last year.

The news will certainly further boost the side’s confidence as they prepare for their tie with Plzen tonight, as the Catalan giants aim to take first spot in the Group H table away from AC Milan.

Plzen are bottom of the table, with just one draw and two losses from their last three matches, and Barcelona will be overwhelming favourites to take away three points.
