Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard is of the opinion that Lewis Hamilton is feeling the pressure of this season's title race and that he is suffering 'little incidents' because of that.

Hamilton is going toe-to-toe with Max Verstappen this year and the pair are providing one of the great modern title duels, one that looks set to run right until the very end of the campaign.

Indeed, the finest of margins look set to decide this one with just six points between the two of them in the standings, and Coulthard is of the opinion that Lewis has been showing signs of feeling the pressure with some little errors here and there.

Speaking to Channel 4, the former McLaren driver said:

"He has a remarkable amount of little incidents and he gets away with it.

"Whether it was running into the gravel at Imola, touching the barrier and being able to reverse out and various others, hitting the pit wall in Russia most recently where there was minimal damage to the car.

"That is the remarkable thing, you don’t really see him drop the ball massively, lots of little incidents, but it shows he’s under pressure."

Both drivers look pretty cool and calm on the surface but they're surely well aware of what is at stake for them both this season.

Hamilton can become the first person ever to win an eighth world title whilst Verstappen is hunting his first-ever crown, and so pressure naturally ramps up with that, and especially at the end of the campaign.

It's all about who deals with it best, then, and it's going to be exciting to watch who does exactly that in the final six races.
