Rangers and Norwich City have been told not to give up on signing Russian Dmitri Sychev, despite the forward being reportedly close to agreeing a new deal at Lokomotiv Moscow.

The frontman has been offered contract extension at the club until 2015.

However, Rangers and Norwich, both interested parties, have been told not to give up in their pursuit of the 28-year-old.

"This does not change the situation - an important offer would still be studied if it comes in," he said.

With Steve Naismith ruled out until the end of the season, Rangers will be keen to add to their artillery to help maintain their nine-point lead at the top of the SPL.

The Rangers man will hope to recover in time to take his place in Scotland World Cup qualifying campaign next year.
