The Sun's Tom Barclay believes that Leeds' style of play could suit Southampton when the two teams play each other this weekend.

The Saints are back in action against Marcelo Bielsa's men, looking for their first Premier League win of the season.

How have Southampton fared so far this season?

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side have had a tricky start to the campaign, picking up just four points from their opening seven matches.

It has not been all doom and gloom, as the team have managed to get creditable draws against both Manchester clubs, while they also prevented free-scoring West Ham from finding the net last month.

However, they have only collected a single point from their more winnable games against Newcastle and Wolves, which leaves them just a place and a point above the drop zone heading into this weekend's round of fixtures.

What has Barclay said about Southampton's clash with Leeds?

Southampton are preparing to take on a Leeds team who only earned their first top-flight win of the campaign just before the international break at home to Watford.

The Yorkshire club are known for taking the game to the opposition at all times, and Barclay has claimed that this approach could actually help Southampton on Saturday.

Referring to Leeds' front foot style and how the match could play out, Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “Leeds will be an interesting one because Leeds do that, whoever they’re playing. So, maybe that will play into Southampton’s hands. You do feel like they really need a win soon, and maybe the Leeds game, with the way they play, will suit Southampton most.”

What is Southampton's record against Bielsa's Leeds?

Barclay has suggested that he fancies Southampton's chances this weekend, but the Saints barely laid a glove on Leeds last term.

In their first season back in the Premier League, Leeds dominated both contests against Hasenhuttl's men, winning 3-0 at Elland Road, before picking up a 2-0 victory on the South Coast in May.

Southampton will need to put in a much-improved display this time around if they are to get a positive result, but they have shown on a few occasions this season that they are a match for any team when they are at their best.

Furthermore, Leeds have not been firing on all cylinders lately, so this could actually be a good time for Southampton to play them, and finally get the better of Bielsa's side.
