Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore will be keen to put Aston Villa to the sword this weekend after enduring a frustrating spell with the club earlier in his career, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

What's the latest news involving Traore?

Having started the first five Premier League fixtures of the campaign, Traore has been made to settle for cameo appearances from the bench in each of the last two outings against Southampton and Newcastle United.

Traore's goalless start to the season also resulted in him not being included in Spain's squad during the international break, meaning he missed his country's Nations League semi-final and final encounters despite being involved for Luis Enrique's side twice last month.

But it appears as though Traore could be set for a recall to Wolves head coach Bruno Lage's starting line-up when they make the short trip to Villa Park for a mouth-watering derby clash due to Francisco Trincao, who joined on an initial loan deal from Barcelona in the summer, being a doubt after contracting coronavirus last week.

If Traore is given the nod, it would result in him being given the opportunity to face the side he joined from Spanish giants Barcelona six years ago.

However, the 25-year-old was restricted to just one start during his time with Aston Villa and moved onto Middlesbrough a year later.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Traore?

Traore impressed enough over the course of 71 Middlesbrough appearances for Wolves to trigger his £18million release clause in 2018.

He has gone on to score 10 goals and grab a further 18 assists in 140 outings for the Molineux-based outfit.

Hatfield believes Traore will be fired up against Villa after an unhappy spell with the club.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "He is a physical specimen and he'll be more than up for it.

"He departed Villa and I don't think he had the best time there so there might be a little added needle in it for him."

What's the latest on Traore's contract situation?

Traore's £43,000-per-week contract has less than two years remaining.

Reports last month suggested the winger was on the verge of penning a new deal worth close to £100,000-per-week, which would make him one of the top earners at Wolves, but he has yet to commit his long-term future to the club.

Wolves want to tie Traore down to a new contract after he was courted by Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Wolves turned down a £30million bid from the north Londoners with the deadline looming and were only willing to sell Traore for £50million.
