Fred shocked Manchester United fans by producing a quality assist for Brazil superstar Neymar against Uruguay in a 2022 World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.
The 28-year-old has constantly divided opinion among Man United supporters since arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.
Pep Guardiola wanted to bring the Brazilian midfielder to Manchester City in the same summer but it was United who won the race for his signature.
Fred was a bitter disappointment during his debut campaign at Old Trafford but gradually won over some United fans over the next two seasons thanks to his energy and tenacity.
Now in his fourth season, though, there are many United supporters who feel that Fred isn’t good enough to be a first-team regular if the club want to challenge for the Premier League title.
However, Fred’s assist during Brazil’s 4-1 win over Uruguay might explain why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to keep faith in the South American.
