Roberto Carlos once scored from a corner using the outside of his boot for Corinthians

Take a bow, Roberto Carlos!

Throughout the course of football history, countless players have scored directly from a corner kick.

David Beckham, Angel Di Maria, Toni Kroos and many other high-profile names have achieved the difficult feat in a professional setting.

To score directly from a corner, a player has to put an insane amount of curve on an in-swinging effort and pray the goalkeeper slightly misjudges the flight of the ball.

Surely that's the only way to do it, right?

Well, 99% of the time that would be correct, but one famous footballer managed to ripple the back of the net from the corner flag using the outside of their boot.

That man is Roberto Carlos and arguably the greatest left-back of his generation produced the goods in January 2011 while playing for Corinthians versus Portuguesa in his native Brazil.

The Real Madrid legend was certainly aided by the fact that the opposing goalkeeper was way off his line, but that doesn't mean the innovative strike isn't unquestionably magnificent.

Not bad, Roberto.

Carlos had very little to aim at and as anyone who's played football will know, getting the right amount of curve using the outside of the boot is extremely hard to pull off.

But the thunder-thighed Brazilian got it just right and was deservedly mobbed by his teammates following the extraordinary strike

Less than a month after he scored the goal, Carlos left Corinthians and signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

The 48-year-old was one of many famous faces signed by the club's ambitious owner at that time, with the likes of Samuel Eto'o and Willian joining him in Dagestan.

Carlos even had a brief spell as interim manager of Anzhi in 2012, before resigning alongside Guus Hiddink.
